5 out of 5 stars Great Monitor Great Price   November 26, 2008
I purchased one of these for my wife this spring for her birthday. She had a bit of trouble with it, but HP replaced it at once. She has had no more trouble with it. I purchased one for my new computer and boy do I like it. I have had no problem with it all, but if I do I know that HP will replace it ASAP.

5 out of 5 stars Oh, HP. Hold me with all your wonderful sleekness and such...   November 26, 2008
I really like these monitors. Sleek, fast response time and the software makes managing it pretty easy. It also has the ability to flip sideways for a portrait; I don't know anyone who uses it, but who cares, it's there if you want it. Like most reviewers have commented, the sound is not that great, but I don't know a single monitor that has decent sound; it's one of those things people keep b*n about, but no one ever does anything about. At any rate, these monitors are so good I bought two. If you don't have a dual-monitor setup, check it out, you'll use the extra real estate and you won't ever go back to using just one. If you really want to streamline everything, maybe for business or pleasure, purchase UltraMon (a multi-monitor utility) for an extra $40, and really make the whole setup convenient; although xp/vista handles multiple monitors pretty well on there own, I'm just lazy when it comes to technology. Now, if I can only get it to listen to my wife when she gets home........

joking ladies, no hate mail.

4 out of 5 stars Won't Regret   November 24, 2008

Worked for me !! plugged it out of the box and it automatically adjusted to 1680 screen resolution. It includes an HDMI cable which is very convenient. Glossy screen and wide enough to watch your movies... You can also turn the screen to a vertical position and it will portrait the image. Great Monitor.

1 complaint: speakers sound bad.

5 out of 5 stars Hp w2277h monitor - love it   November 23, 2008
the extra space and color sharpness makes graphic design sooo much easier on the eyes.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Monitor but with a couple of items to be aware of.   November 15, 2008

For the money the HP w2207h is a pretty good monitor. I was leary of the glossy surface but as long as light sources are not directly behind you, there is not much glare. Pictures look quite good but those, who like me, who do photo and art work, be aware that there is some light fall off at the sides and at top or bottom. When looking at a white screen the sides look like a light tan because of this fall off. This is dependant on how close to the monitor you sit. I like to be 20" to 24" back but if you sit 26" to 36" from the monitor you should not have this problem.

I did not install any software that came with the monitor and I don't see any need for it. I use an ATI card that comes with ATI Catalyst software. I just plugged the monitor in and it worked. I set the video to the native 1680 x 1050 resolution. I use a Spyder 3 monitor calibrator. The default brightness of the monitor was 90%. I did a calibration but this monitor is quite bright in dim light such as night. I finally set the monitor to 60% brightness (using the front panel menu) and recalibrated. This is a good set point and not too bright at night.

If your video card output is a DVI connection, you will need an adapter or new cable. The monitor comes with VGA to VGA and HDMI to HDMI cables. I had a VGA to DVI adapter which I used to connect to my Saphire X1600 video card which has two DVI outputs. You will need an adapter or cable if you have DVI outputs on your video card.

Overall I would recommend this monitor if you can sit back 26" or more and if the 1680 x 1050 resolution is good enough. It is for me but might not be for others. Colors are rich in tone and saturation and there was no problem calibrating it. Front panel controls are good. I don't use the speakers since you really need good speakers with a sub woofer for music (possibly a few exceptions) so monitor speakers are only useful for voice.
